Roy’s Odyssey: Super-hero fight
This week’s Roy’s Odyssey post is the first of the two super-hero ones (well, to be honest, as far as the film goes, it’s the second…)
The opening of the film is, as I believe I have mentioned before, a (deliberately) cliche-filled super-hero fight involving both flying and firing lasers out of eyes/hands. These two effects are in two definite sections in the scene, so have been split into seperate sequences for the purpose of the VFX. I’m calling them “Fight” and “Flying” (yes, “Fight” and “Flight” would be funnier, but also far too confusing…)
So, anyway, today I’m on the fight - as far as I am aware, this will purely involve the lasers from hands/eyes….
I think the main bit of this that will have to be done well is 3D roto of whichever body part they are coming from. Due to the nature of this scene, the shots will probably be very dynamic, so good matchmoving will also be in order.
Depending on talks with the production team, I’m planning on doing pre-viz for this entire first scene. I’d also like to do various tests of different laser styles - I expect that the two characters will both have their own ’style’ of laser (although, personally, I’d rather not go with two different colours - that would feel far to “star-wars”)
Anyway, beyond that, I’m not too sure….
I’ve got a (potential) meeting with the diretor and producer tomorrow, so I may well know more after that….
More as it comes!
