Roy’s Odyssey: Building a team

I’m slowly gathering a small team of people to work on Roy’s Odyssey… All (so far, anyway) are professionals working in London and all are willing to do it for the fun of it! (And no, I’m not getting paid either, nor is the production team)

So far, I’ve got two people who are definately (well, maybe definately) on for doing the goldfish sequence. They’re both more into TD/shading/rendering, so I still need to track down an animator, modeller and texturer for that sequence. (I’ve got two small possiblities of animators for this… nothing definite yet, though). I’ve also got three or four other people who I’ve spoken to about the project in general who are vaguely interested, and are going to think about it and get back to me.

For the moment, I’m thinking of going for a small team per sequence - that way, nobody will have too much work to do (hopefully), although if there are people who want to work on more, then I certainly wouldn’t say no (provided they’re capable!)

One thing I am definately not going to do is work with people with whom I can’t have regular meetings. I’ve worked on projects over the internet before, and I find that the level of communication just isn’t the same… I’m sure many of you who’ve done similar things will agree with me (and if you don’t, I’d love to hear about your experiences - comments link is below…)

As far as I can tell, the main roles that I’ll need for each sequence are:

  • Modelling
  • Textures
  • Animation
  • Lighting
  • Shading/Rendering
  • Compositing

Also, for the super-hero fight (more details tomorrow), there will be quite a lot of Matchmoving, FX and 3D roto. Matchmoving will also be needed for the flying super-heroes sequence (details next weds, or see the original info post)

Depending on how much work people want to take on, they can take on one or more sequences (or one or more roles, providing they’re good at everything they’re doing)

Anyway, I’ll keep you updated as the team builds. It’s still very early stages, but once I get more details on what the production team want, we will be starting on some pre-viz for the first scene (the flying and fight sequences)

Oh yeah… That means I’ll need some people earlier than I was planning! Ah well - I said this blog would be a good help for me!
