Previous forays into low-budget VFX
As I mentioned last week, I’m going to post a few brief run-downs of previous short films that I’ve done the VFX for. Most of these are only a couple of shots, but I learnt valuable lessons on each one, and would be quite happy to share them with you.
So, here’s the list of films that I’ve done this kind of thing on before - I’ll let you (both of you) choose which one you want to hear about first:
The Last Act 2 (2000)
A very low-budget ‘bullet-time’ shot.
Resolution (2001/2002)
A couple (or maybe three - it was a long time ago) of relatively simple cinema-screen replacement shots
Zero (2005)
My own film (as producer/director) - about 40 VFX shots, ranging from adding a car into a shot to simple clean-up.
Enter The Zombie (2005)
James’ latest film. Zombie transformation shots.
Let me know (comments available below) which one you’d like to hear about first - at some stage I’m probably going to talk about all four of them (and any others if I suddenly remember something I’ve forgotten)

Hey Hugh,
low-budget bullet-time sounds interesting (everyone needs a good laugh sometimes
, just kidding) , but i’ll go for ‘Zero’ first.
Looking forward to seeing some pics from the films and reading your remarks about them.
Cheers

Zero is a still in-production film, but I’ll share some stories about the shoot and give details on a couple of in-progress shots….
I’ll do the first of these this friday, so I’ll wait and see what other people want first… Whatever happens, you’ll get all of them at some point, though.

It would be nice to hear about Zero. Are you doing all VFX all by your self? .I am middle of doing my own movie too and I am doing all VFX stuff..well I have 3D modeller who doesn’t seem to hurry doing his part..It’s a shame, because visuals are getting out dated as time goes by..so it would be great to hear how you managed to get things done.

The VFX are all 2D, but I’ve got a few other people I know through work helping out on it.
Initially it was all me (and I certainly think that it’s all well within my capabilities), but I found that I just didn’t have the time to do it all - I’ve got various other areas of post production that I’m working through at the moment.
We locked the edit the weekend before last, but I’ve still got the grade and the sound edit to do.
So at the moment there are 5 of us working on the VFX. On friday, I’ll talk about the main sequence that I’m doing in detail, and mention in passing a few of the other bits that are being/have been done.
