Obligatory introduction
I suppose the first blog post has to, more by necessity than any sense of tradition, be an introduction to the author, and to what the blog is setting out to do….
So here goes… <deep breath>
My name is Hugh Macdonald, I’m 24 and I work in the visual effects industry in London. (you know, all that stuff you see in films that they couldn’t actually shoot…. what’s that?…you mean you didn’t realise that shot of the earth exploding was faked?)
However, this blog is not about my job…..
Over the past 4 or 5 years, as well as university (up until about 2 years ago) and my job (for the past 18 months), I’ve worked part time on various short low-budget films, in various roles, a couple as director, but more doing little bits and pieces of VFX (visual effects). This blog is to be about these films (well, to be honest, more about the ones that I am embarking on in the near future, but I’m sure I’ll mention the older ones from time to time…)
The main catalyst for setting up this blog is the recent request that I look after all of the VFX on a short film that is currently in early pre-production. I have full permission (well, from the director - I haven’t met the producer yet) to blog about my experiences on this project. More details on the film itself tomorrow….
Anyway, I’ll leave you with a few good links:
VFXTalk.com - A Compositing forum that I co-admin
CGTalk - A fantastic CG forum - some amazing artists on there
My IMDb page - okay, so you know what films I worked/am working on… You know I can’t/won’t talk about them, so don’t ask!
