VFX Supervisor carry-kit

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

People… I need some suggestions…..
What should I carry with me at all times when shooting?
Stuff I’ve got on my list so far:

LX tape:

Black
White
Red (for tracking markers)

Leatherman
LED tracking markers
Tape measure
Silver ball (or half silver, half 50% grey) - anyone know where I can get one of these from in the UK?
Digital Camera

What else is essential carrying? […]

Roy’s Odyssey: Comic-book character

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

It’s wednesday (things have been going so quickly recently!), so that means it’s time for another episode of Roy’s Odyssey VFX prep thoughts….
I’m going to leave the opening sequence alone for now, as I’d like to have more of a chat with the production team before figuring out exactly what we’re going to have to […]

Shake tip mond… uh… tuesday - Fixing crashing quickpaint nodes

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

(I’m having some trouble getting this post formatted correctly… apologies if it doesn’t look right - it’ll be keeping changing until it looks good…)
I’ve been away all weekend (plus monday) so I was ‘unavailable’ to post yesterday (if you count being on a boat on a canal all day as ‘unavailable’, anyway…
I promised some Shake […]

Zero - VFX break-down

Friday, March 25th, 2005

Here’s the first of the film break-downs from ones I’ve previously worked on. This one is slightly different, as I’m still working on it.
What’s the film?
Zero
Who made it?
I directed and co-produced, plus did most of the post production. My co-producer was also the DoP
What’s it about?
It’s an action/thriller short about a hit-man who, while on […]

Problems with blogging….

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

Nothing to do with VFX, but I just had to post it (you’ll get this kind of thing occasionally!)
Just saw this over at Random Acts of Reality, and had to share….

Roy’s Odyssey: CG Goldfish

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

I spoke last week about this new project I’m going to be working on, andmentioned that there were four (so far) main sequences that I would be working on.
Every wednesday, for the next four weeks, I’m going to run through, in more detail, what I expect to have to do for each sequence, and how […]

Schedules, plans and other miscellany

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005

For the next few weeks, at least, I’m going to try to keep to some kind of schedule about what I write about when….
Here’s the plan:
Mondays: A Shake tutorial of some kind (I may well re-use ones I’ve written for elsewhere if I’m stuck for ideas)Wednesdays: Thoughts on one of the sequences I’ll be doing […]

Previous forays into low-budget VFX

Monday, March 21st, 2005

As I mentioned last week, I’m going to post a few brief run-downs of previous short films that I’ve done the VFX for. Most of these are only a couple of shots, but I learnt valuable lessons on each one, and would be quite happy to share them with you.
So, here’s the list of films […]

New RSS Feed

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

I’ve just added a RSS feed through FeedBurner - to add this to your reader (I use SharpReader myself…) click the icon in the bottom right….
(The above post was by no way endorsed, subsidised or paid for by either FeedBurner or SharpReader… Neither product has any knowledge that they have been mentioned, and any […]

Why “UnFramed”? (aka History, Pt. 1)

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

The title of this blog isn’t entirely random, and there is a bit of a history behind it…. If you’ll bear with me, I’ll try to explain a little…
Back in about 1998, I was 17, and was at school…. I’d been vaguely interested in computer graphics for a while, having found the demo of a […]
